  12. WHAT IS "URL Grabber"?
  13.  
  14. URL Grabber is a small floating tool bar that resides in a 
  15. corner of your MS Windows desktop.
  16.  
  17. It enables you to easily 'grab' and store URLs from news 
  18. groups, Email messages and other sources, as you are 
  19. reading them.
  20.  
  21. With a 'click' of a mouse, URL Grabber will automatically 
  22. convert your collection of URLs to active WWW links 
  23. on an HTML page. 
  24.  
  25. With another mouse click, URL Grabber will bring up 
  26. your favorite browser displaying your collected links so 
  27. you can view Web pages, download files and otherwise 
  28. obtain information from the WWW almost instantly.

  30. HOW TO USE URL GRABBER
  31.  
  32. First, select or create a file for storing your collected 
  33. URLs. To do this, simply click the "File..." button on the 
  34. tool bar and use the file select dialog to select an existing 
  35. file or enter a file name.
  36.  
  37. Then, while you are perusing newsgroups, online 
  38. publications, Email, or any other text source that permits 
  39. copying to the Windows clipboard, simply select a URL 
  40. by dragging across it with the mouse.

  42. Use your application's "Copy" (or equivalent) function to 
  43. copy the selected URL to the clipboard.
  44.  
  45. Next, click URL Grabber's "Paste" button.
  46.  
  47. A small dialog box, displaying the selected URL, will 
  48. appear. You can edit it if necessary. 
  49.  
  50. Optionally, you can add a comment or description which 
  51. will appear as the "Clickable" text when a browser page is 
  52. created.
  53.  
  54. If you want to save time, and omit the step of adding a 
  55. comment, URL Grabber will automatically use the URL as 
  56. the "clickable" text when it creates a browser page.

  58. When you are finished with the dialog box, simply press 
  59. the <Enter> key, or click the "OK" button. If you change 
  60. your mind, and don't want to keep the URL, click the 
  61. "Cancel" button or press the <Esc> key.

  63. The URLs are stored in "HTML Assistant URL File" 
  64. format. That is, as a text file with each URL/Comment pair 
  65. on a single line, separated by a comma. You can view and 
  66. edit the URL file at any time by clicking the "View" 
  67. button.

  69. The file is automatically updated after any entries or 
  70. changes are made.

  72. There is a file size limitation of just under 32K. That is,  
  73. to successfully create a browser page, the HTML file must 
  74. be less than 32K long. That means that the maximum size 
  75. of your URL file shouldn't be more than 29 or 30K in 
  76. length. You can usually store more than 300 URLs in 
  77. each file.

  79. AUTOMATICALLY CREATE A BROWSER PAGE
  80.  
  81. After collecting one or more URLs, you can at any time 
  82. have URL Grabber automatically create a browser page 
  83. by clicking the "Create..." button.
  84.  
  85. You may enter a title, a main heading and a subheading 
  86. for your page if you wish. You can add horizontal lines as 
  87. separators, choose a numbered or unnumbered (bulleted) 
  88. list, and elect to add extra spacing between lines.

  90. When you are ready, click the button with the lightning 
  91. bolt on it (chosen after the symbol of the wizard, 
  92. "Shazam", in the old Captain Marvel comics), and URL 
  93. Grabber will create your HTML page, display it, permit 
  94. you to edit it, and to save it.

  96. DISPLAY YOUR FILE WITH YOUR BROWSER
  97.  
  98. After it is has been saved, you can view your new HTML 
  99. page with your favorite browser by clicking the "Open 
  100. Browser" button on the dialog. If you haven't already 
  101. told URL Grabber where to find your browser, a dialog 
  102. will open which will permit you to provide this 
  103. information.

  105. Remember to CLOSE your browser after viewing.

  107. Because URL Grabber passes the name of your HTML 
  108. file to the browser on the command line, it must reopen 
  109. the browser each time you want to display a modified 
  110. page. If the browser is already open when you click the 
  111. "Open Browser" button, you will see an error message.

  113. You can change browsers at any time by clicking the 
  114. "Choose browser..." button.
